The network society is envisioned as a society based on communication
and interaction and empowering people by making human knowledge and experience openly
accessible, with public services for individuals, enterprise and trade facilitating
growth.
The trends towards the vision have been described
e.g. by Manuel Castells in "The Rise of the Network Society",
Blackwell Publishing, Oxford, 1st
edition 1996, 2nd edition 2000 and "the Internet Galaxy",
Oxford University Press, 2000.

Vision and strategy
Our vision is the network society,
a society based on communication and interaction,
empowering people by making human knowledge
available, with a user-centric (as opposed to service-centric)
public administration supporting enterprise and trade
facilitating growth.
The strategy towards the vision is to define user requirements
on the public sector to be used as driving force in procurements
activating the private sector.
NSRC engages user communities and works with all stakeholders
to create and disseminate
knowledge and competence and to deploy pilots for the network society.
